Our Global Response

Our experts, currently deployed in various parts of the United States, Afghanistan, in Pakistan, the Central African Republic (CAR), Chad, Ethiopia, and Nigeria, are on the frontlines responding to the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Avram has more than 25 years of experience working with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and continues to build strong partnerships and collaborations around the globe.

+ Afghanistan

Avram’s experts developed the local community plan for COVID-19 response in Ahmadi, including regular community awareness campaigns and handwashing demonstrations in the Kandahar Province. Coordinating with local WHO and UNICEF representatives, our team conducted house-to-house social mobilization across the full-time ICN area, regularly.

In Ali, we are receiving, compiling, and analyzing weekly COVID-19 data and responding to incoming information requests. Our staff facilitated a visit to a soap manufacturing plant in Pakistan to facilitate the purchase of 2 million bars of soap for UNICEF Afghanistan’s field distribution and to strengthen the relevant supply chain for health and medical supplies, as well as personal protective equipment (PPE).

In Kamawal, our teams participated in surveillance system disk reviews of the eastern region with WHO and UNICEF as well as in the Rapid Response Team (RRT) for the investigation of new cases of communicable and infectious diseases.

+ Pakistan

In the South Khyber Pukhtunkhwa province, we led the earliest surveillance and response to COVID-19, starting in December 2019. Our teams conducted an in-depth review of surveillance indicators across the provinces to identify areas that needed additional federal resources and support. We reviewed all outbreak investigations and action plans for the province districts and worked with the communications team to develop a cohesive outreach strategy to address underlying issues affecting immunization demands.

+ CAR

In Baonga, Avram’s team is investigating new cases of COVID-19, including identification of the potential source of contamination, contact tracing, facility and home disinfection, and patient quarantine support. Our experts on the ground are training local health staff, district teams, and United Nations workers on best practices for monitoring and surveilling COVID-19 cases.

In Kouatcho, our experts led the surveillance activities as part of the larger COVID-19 response and conducted coaching for national staff on best practices for routine immunization and epidemiological surveillance. Avram’s staff also conducts monthly analyses of Routine Immunization data and synthesizes reports dealing with outbreak response activities in Begoua and Bossembele. We created and finalized the COVID-19 action plan for a local UN clinic and participated in coordination meetings and trainings to equip pandemic response teams.

+ Chad

In Benoit, our team is aggregating and reporting on COVID-19 epidemiological data for the four major hospitals in N’Djamena, which are submitted to the local health ministry for review and approval. Our local leadership are supporting the Ministry of Health’s investigation and supervision of the overall COVID-19 response and effectiveness.
